There's a particular kind of waiting a lot of us do without noticing we're doing it. Waiting for someone to confirm we're on the right path. Waiting for a sign clear enough that we don't have to trust ourselves. Waiting for permission that was never anyone else's to give.

It shows up as a search: for the right teacher, the right relationship, the right moment, the right proof. And underneath the search is usually the same quiet belief, that the thing we're looking for is out there somewhere, held by someone or something other than us.

It isn't. It never was.

Passion isn't found. It's uncovered.

We tend to talk about passion like it's a thing you stumble across, as if one day you'll trip over the "right" path and suddenly know. But passion doesn't usually arrive that way. More often it's already there, buried under years of doing what was expected, what was safe, what kept the peace. Finding it isn't a discovery. It's an excavation.

And excavation requires putting the shovel back in your own hands. Not someone else's.

That's the part that trips people up, because handing our power to something outside ourselves feels, for a while, like relief. If someone else decides, we don't have to carry the weight of being wrong. If we're waiting for a sign, we don't have to act until it's undeniable. It feels safer to keep the power out there.

But it's not safer. It's just slower. And it keeps us circling the same question instead of answering it.

Passion and purpose aren't the same thing

It's worth being honest about the difference, because they get used interchangeably and they're not interchangeable. Passion is a pull, the thing that lights you up, that you'd do even if no one was watching. Purpose is bigger and quieter than that. It's the why underneath the pull. Passion can even mislead you if you're not careful; plenty of things that fire us up are closer to reactivity than direction. Not everything that stirs something in you is pointing you toward your power. Sometimes it's just pointing you toward what still needs healing.

Purpose asks a different question. Not "what excites me" but "what am I actually here to do." And that question only has an answer when you're willing to go quiet enough to hear it.

Why we keep asking "what am I here to do?"

If you've ever found yourself circling those questions, why am I here, what do I actually need, what am I supposed to be doing with this life, that circling isn't a problem to solve. It's information. It's usually a sign that you've stopped listening to your own inner self and started listening to everything around it instead: other people's opinions, other people's timelines, the noise of comparison.

The questions don't go away because you find the perfect answer somewhere out there. They go away when you come back into relationship with your own knowing, when you trust what's already speaking to you quietly enough to actually hear it.

What it actually means to stand in your own power

Standing in your own power doesn't mean having it all figured out. It doesn't mean confidence that never wavers, or certainty that never gets tested. Most days it looks much smaller than that. It looks like trusting the quiet nudge instead of needing it shouted. It looks like acting on your own knowing before someone else validates it. It looks like noticing where you've been outsourcing your worth, and quietly taking it back.

This is also where the ego tends to get loud. The moment you start trusting yourself more than the noise around you, the ego pushes back, because it's built its whole job around keeping you small, cautious, waiting. That pushback isn't a sign you're doing it wrong. It's usually a sign you're doing it right. The work isn't to silence it or fight it. It's to meet it with curiosity, to ask what it's actually afraid of, and keep going anyway.

The permission you've been waiting for
